Our Mestre

Mestre Jelon Vieira is the founder of Capoeira Luanda, founder and artistic director of DanceBrazil, and founder of The Capoeira Foundation. He was one of the first people to bring Capoeira to the United States when he moved to New York City in 1975. In 2008, his dedication to Capoeira earned him a National Heritage Fellowship from the White House. He has taught Capoeira to legendary soccer player Pelé and stars like Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes.

Our Professor

Professor Pião hails from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and has been training Capoeira under Mestre Jelon for more than 25 years. He has toured internationally as a dancer and performer with Magic Life and Jelon’s DanceBrazil. In addition to teaching private Capoeira classes, Pião also serves as a full-time teacher in Brooklyn, New York.
